PlayStation Network not working? What to check

    1. playstation.com answers us, so start with your own side: open it in another browser, or on mobile data instead of wi-fi. If it works there, the problem is your network or the device.
    2. Restart the router and try again. A stale DNS answer or a half-dead connection looks exactly like an outage from one machine.
    3. Clear the site's data (or sign out and in). A broken session shows PlayStation Network as an error page while everyone else is fine.
    4. Check whether it is only one feature. PlayStation Network can be up as a site and broken for uploads, payments or logins, and a check from outside like ours cannot see that.
    5. If it is your own site you are worried about rather than PlayStation Network, put it on a monitor and let it tell you instead.

    How our checker works

We request playstation.com from our own servers in Frankfurt every five minutes and record the status code and how long it took. A failure is not enough on its own: the check is repeated, and only when two in a row fail does an incident open here. That rule is why this page does not flicker red every time a single request is dropped somewhere between us and them.

What we see is what somebody outside the company sees. If PlayStation Network is broken only for signed-in users, or only in one country, an outside check like this one can miss it. It is the same check we run on our customers' own sites, and the same rules.

    Frequently asked questions

Is PlayStation Network down right now?
PlayStation Network is up. Our checks reach playstation.com and it answers normally.
Is PlayStation Network down for everyone or just me?
PlayStation Network answers our checks from outside, so the outage is probably local to you: try another network, restart the router, clear the app's cache, and check whether other sites work. If playstation.com is up for us and down for you, it is your side of the connection.
How do you check PlayStation Network?
Every five minutes we request playstation.com from our servers and check the response code and the time it took. A single failure is re-checked before it counts, so one dropped request never turns this page red.
Will you tell me when PlayStation Network is back?
Yes, if you ask: add PlayStation Network to a free ServerInspector account and you get an email the moment it goes down and the moment it recovers. The free plan holds ten services and needs no card.
Is this the official PlayStation Network status page?
No. We are not affiliated with PlayStation Network. This is what our own checks see from outside, which is what your users see too, and it does not depend on anyone publishing an incident.
